By seamlessly combining 19th century pieces, mid-century minimalism and one-of-a-kind contemporary art, her philosophy is to create rooms and homes reflective of the people who live there.

Kimba has also been lauded for her unique SpeedDesign™ interior design service, through which she reinvents rooms – even entire homes – in just weeks. Untouched and uninspired spaces are quickly, thoughtfully and professionally transformed into harmonious, textured new worlds.

Professionally, Kimba began in the design department of Francis Ford Coppola’s studio, Zoetrope, then spent several years casting for films. She had a son in 1992, which focused her diverse passions on a deep desire to launch a design studio and shop in her beloved Santa Monica neighborhood, Sunset Park. In 2004, Kimba opened rumba. Its annex behind the storefront – a bungalow where she’s been living and designing – also serves as a constantly evolving showroom.

Upon opening rumba’s doors, Kimba rapidly built a base of interior design clients who admired her inimitable style, as well as her amassed antique art and furniture collection. Her exposure to Southern California artists like Billy Al Bengston, Ed Moses and Peter Alexander, honed her understanding and enthusiasm for contemporary art, a passion she consistently draws upon and implements into her interior design projects.

Kimba was born in Jackson, Tennessee, and has made her home in California since 1981. She has been mentioned in the New York Times, LA Times, Domino, Metropolitan Home, and C Magazine, among others. An avid shopper and collector still influenced by her Southern roots, Kimba travels the country in search of one-of-a-kind vintage furniture, lighting, art, and accessories in order to make them available to her rumba customers and valued clients.
